At Academy@Worden we recognise that moving from Primary to Secondary School can be a daunting experience for pupils and parents alike. Our carefully tailored transition programme aims to support each family through this process so that moving on to Secondary School is a natural next step.
Meet and Greet: Before May half term, all new Year 7 pupils and their families are invited into school to Meet our Headteacher Mr Hammersley and learn more about Worden and our transition process.

Transition Visit:

In the Summer Term Mrs Cairns (Assistant Headteacher) will visit every feeder primary school, even if only one pupil may be joining us from their school. During this visit she will introduce each pupils to the daily routines at Academy@Worden and answer any questions they might have. She will also speak to their teacher about their current attainment and pastoral needs.

Early Intervention and Support:

On occasion, it might be appropriate to provide additional support to those pupils who most need it during the transition process. Mrs Keane, our SENCO, also visits primary schools where necessary and provides tailored visits for pupils who need a little more support. These are calendared in the Summer term.

New Intake Evening:

The evening before our Taster Day in July, our new intake and their families are invited into Worden to meet their form tutor, behaviour manager and their form group.

Taster Day:

At the start of July our new intake will visit Academy@Worden where they will spend time with their new form and form tutor before sampling lessons . Each form tutor will remain with their form throughout their time at school supporting them through their transition to secondary school and beyond.

Worden Flying Start Summer School:

All pupils are invited to take part in our free of charge, week long Summer school which takes place in August.   The week is an opportunity to further develop key skills in English and Maths and also take part in a range of team building and exciting challenge activities led by Worden staff.  Pupils can familiarise themselves with the layout of the school and meet new friends and staff!

During the first few weeks:

In addition to the support offered by the form tutor pupils will also have access to Year 8 and Year 9 Peer Mentors who will spend time in each form during morning registrations. The Peer Mentors have been specially selected following an interview process and will have spent time getting to know the pupils on the Taster Day back in July.

Transition Evening:

In the Autumn term parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s tutor to find out how they are getting on. During this meeting we will discuss attendance & punctuality, attitude to learning, organisation and the extra-curricular activities. This will be followed by a more formal academic Parents’ Evening in the Summer term and three monitoring reports during the academic year.
