In the light of the upcoming General Election on the 4th July, Worden pupils in Year 7- 10 took part in their own election to decide which song would represent their House going forward into the new academic year. The process started with the pupils learning more about the development of the electoral system and voting rights and the importance of voting.
Each form then discussed and chose one song that was put forward to be voted on by the rest of their House. There were some interesting suggestions, from Katy Perry to AC/DC, a really eclectic mix! The local council were kind enough to lend the school four official ballot boxes which gave pupils a feel for what the real process is like, with 411 pupils taking part from five houses. This constituted a voter turnout of almost 90%, significantly more than the predictions for our General Election next week. The pupils will be informed of the winning songs at the presentation assemblies at the end of the term, with many pupils eager to find out if their vote was the winning vote.
