Pupils in year 10 recently benefited from an engaging and informative session delivered by We Are With You, a leading organisation that supports people struggling with drug, alcohol, and mental health issues. The session aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of substance misuse while equipping pupils with the knowledge and tools to make safe, informed decisions.

During the session, representatives from We Are With You provided valuable insights into the physical, emotional, and social impacts of drug and alcohol use. Through real-life stories, interactive discussions, and practical advice, pupils learned about the risks associated with substance misuse and how it can affect mental health, relationships, and future opportunities. A key highlight of the session was the hands-on activities designed to give pupils a realistic understanding of how substance use can impair judgment. Pupils had the opportunity to wear ‘beer goggles’, simulating the disorienting effects of alcohol and allowing them to experience how intoxication can severely impact vision, coordination, and decision-making.

Additionally, pupils examined 'mock drug intervention', providing them with an awareness of the different substances that exist and the dangers associated with each variant.

Importantly, We Are With You emphasized the importance of seeking support and looking out for others, fostering a culture of openness and understanding in the school community pupils were encouraged to ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations, helping to break down the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health challenges.

The visit from We Are With You was a valuable experience that not only educated pupils about the risks of drugs and alcohol but also empowered them to make responsible choices and seek help when needed. This session reflects Worden's ongoing commitment to promoting pupil well-being and creating a safe, supportive learning environment.
